It's 2021 and I am hopeful but definitely proceeding with some caution! Written on January 1, 2021, "2021: Proceed with Caution" is a single-page unaccompanied piece for solo clarinet. It is intended to be played on any clarinet in the clarinet family. The first four notes of the piece represent 2021 where C=0, C#=1 and D=2. This created a very ominous motive that is heard throughout the piece. Appropriate for a 2nd year player and beyond, "2021: Proceed with Caution" serves as a wonderful way to work on legato, rubato and musical expression for any player.
